Manoj
We became friends during our Pre Degree days. An excellent quizzer. Was in
many a TV/Radio quiz program and was the quiz master in many a competition.
He wanted to be an IAS officer. Now he is an advocate in the Kerala High
Court.
Kishor
How does it feel like getting back in touch with a very good friend? That's
exactly what has happened with Kishor. We were
together for our Pre Degree during 1987-89, kept our communication alive
every now and then, and the last time I heard from him was sometime back in
1994. He is back again, married to Manju, and happily living in Madras. He is with Prometric, working as a Channel Coordinator for Tamil
Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala.
Anil Kumar PV
I call him Anilettan. Friend, philosopher, and
guide during my MSc days. Was the Chairman of
Department Students Union, MG University. An
excellent organizer, wonderful person, and a loving friend. You speak with
him for a moment, you'll like him. Happily married to Anitha.
He is currently a lecturer with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
Jayachandran
One of the talented youngsters I know. Electronics Engineering was never his
way of life. I never forget his mother asking me to tell him to study! Jayachandran composed one of my songs to participate in
group music competition for high school students conducted by AIR, but could
not win a prize. I still believe that he's one of the best in that field.
Since then he has composed music for some drama troops, and for some TV
serials both in Malayalam as well as in Tamil. He claims that the title music
of one of the films (I forgot the film) was originally composed by him, but
they never acknowledged it. It's a bad world, isn't it?
Tom
Senior Sub Editor with Malayala Manorama
and a consultant with the Manorama Portal
(Lifestyle Channel). A thinker, and a writer with a
few books to his credit (and a few on the way!). He makes sense all the
time. He is married to Swapna (who now is the
editor of Indulekha.co) and they both have two baby girls Shreya
and Maria.
Syam
My school days friend. Among all my friends, my mother likes him most. An
Electronics whiz-kid and a BSc Zoology drop-out.
The most beautiful girl in my school loved Syam.
Utkalikans (all of them are my
postgraduate class-mates)
Prasad
Prasad has been my roommate for a long time (more than anybody else). Both of
us got into Siemens on the same day. An amazing reader, writer, nature-lover,
and quiz wizard. The only guy who filed a written complaint against a teacher
during MSc. Prasad lives in upstate NY with his
wife Dhanya and son Niranjan. He is currently employed
with InfiMed.
Saji
Saji makes sense most of the time. Has been my
roommate for a while and that itself should speak for his amazing power of
tolerance. A great sport-lover, cool cricketer, and a nice individual. Saji is married to Sindhu, and
now in Atlanta with this son Aromal. He is employed
with one of the counties in Atlanta.
Saju
He loves to be left alone. Claims that his house is in Ernakulam
district, even though his home is actually in Idukki.
He is from Thazhuvamkunnu, some 20 KMs from Thodupuzha, and when I last heard from him, he was
planning to make a site www.thazhuvamkunnu.com. Saju
is in Boulder, Colorado living with his wife Chris and son Sachin.
Liju Thomas
The first rank holder in Computer Science from MG University. I will remember
him for his Breadth First Search (BFS) algorithm, the full-blooded cover
drives he elegantly produces, and the great tasting wine his mother used to
give me during Christmas, and definitely not for his infamous wicket-keeping
abilities. Liju is married to Soumya. He is is
currently in Hyderabad and is with Microsoft.
Liju Paul
If Liju Paul (we call him Paul) can't do it, nobody can do it. A good guy
with a big heart. If you ever need an advice, just call him, he'll be there
to help you. Paul lives in Minneapolis, MN. Employer: Target. Liju is married
to Reshmi.
Sunil
He who receives it all. Perhaps the only one from our MSc
class who is still working in UNIX. (Is that because he was the first one to
get a job?) One of the reasons why Oracle is still a good product. Sportsman
spirit personified. Sunil lives in SFO with his wife Reena
and his daughter Aleena.
Sanjiv
He who received it all! Any story written on him will not be a short story.
Married to his school-days heart-throb Shari and now lives in Dallas with
their daughter Anjali.
Class-mates (graduation)
Gopan
The "ideal guy". Many a time I used to wonder if Dr. Kalyanasundaram (the then HOD) was teaching only him in a
class full of 60 eager students. "Gopakumar,
which will be your approach to solve this problem?"
still reverberates in my mind! A poet. One of the Mr. Romeos during BSc. Employer: Bell Atlantic, Maryland. Visit his homepage.
Aby
We were close friends during our graduate course. He suddenly disappeared
into nothingness. (Or was that me?) I know he lives somewhere near Calicut,
but my efforts to trace him were fruitless.
Binu
The most mysterious of all my friends. He was unpredictable. As in the case
of Aby; Binu also went out of touch with me all of
a sudden. When I heard about him last (which was back in 1994), he was
working in Madras.
Kavitha, Reena, Mini
Class-mates (post graduation)
Rajesh
Compatible to anybody in the world. A great guy. I remember he punishing a former U-21 Kerala cricket team member for
a series of 4s when Computer Science played against Chemistry in MG
University. Married to his childhood friend and neighbor Suja
and they have a son: Aswin. Rajesh is a consultant
in New Jersey. Visit his homepage.
Bobby
A Holy guy. I never heard a bad word from his mouth. Currently in Atlanta, he
is the most silent guy in Dream
Team. Bobby is married to Akhila.
Betty, Jomy, Jyothi
Siemens Malayalee connection
Girish
Known as "the guy" to ask GUI questions during Siemens days. Best
known for his work with Scenario Wizard, one of the best components in the
BCT suite. Less rewarded, mainly because he forgot "to be in great
terms" with his manager. Girish is with
Motorola, Plantation, FL. Girish
is married to Sreeja.
Kurian
Kurian is fascinated by anything new. Knows all
South Indian languages. An artist. A writer. Less known for his cricketing
prowess. Kurian sets benchmarks for many a follower
in areas like sticking to speed limits in highways, cooking, working out, and
this list is never short.
Bysakh
I used to adjust my watch when Bysakh leaves for
the day. Whatever happens, if its 5 o'clock, then Bysakh is out of Siemens.
Praveena, Joseline
Sleepless in Seattle
Anil
Popularly known as Anilku, he is one among the
first to work with Microsoft from Aditi Corporation. He is a man for all
occasions and drives a cool V8 Camaro. Anil is
currently a program manager with Microsoft.
Those who do not come in any of the above categories
Ayyappan
Ayyappan asked me to write a song for him to
compose (he's a good composer!) and to sing in a light music competition. I
was quite surprised initially, but he convinced me (he said he didn't know
any song, but badly wanted to take part in the competition). I am happy that
he won the competition. I wrote some more songs for him, and he liked all of
them as much as I liked his music. Ayyappan had
been with Indian Express, Trivandrum, but as I understand, he was a victim of
numerology (a growing trend all big publishing companies now blindly follow)
and now works with an advertising company.
Rajesh PV
Rajesh was one of the brightest guys among his batch-mates. We became friends
when we were hostel-mates. After his BTech days in
Engineering College, Trivandrum, we didn't have any contacts for a long time
(till I landed in the US). He did his MTech in IIT
Madras, and now he's in CA with his wife Roshini
and his son Hari. Visit Rajesh's homepage.
Jinu
Perhaps one of the most versatile talents I have seen. He was among the top
in Pre-Degree results, and everybody thought he'd go for a Medical or an
Engineering degree. Instead, he did his BA in English Literature, and MBA
from UK. He was a political heavy weight in Mar Ivanios,
a dance guru, an official Basketball referee, a not-so-bad Cricket umpire,
and a better Cricket player himself. He was a writer and a debater. Now
employed in Dubai as a Senior Marketing Consultant with Merx
& Gibbs.
Gem Mathew
Gemmettan was honored with the Young Scientist
Award for his outstanding work in All India Science Congress, 1994. He was
also the young scientist in Kerala Science Congress twice (if I remember
right). He was a great researcher in School of Chemical Science, MG
University. A wonderful quizzer and a cool quiz master. Now he is with MG
University as a lecturer.
Prabesh
Almost all of his friends call him Prapra, and so
do I. He is sincere in whatever he does. This ever-charming, cool headed,
practical young man is very straight-forward and is respected by many for the
qualities of rare breed that he possesses. Prabesh has varied interests, and
is a good reader and follower of Malayalam literature. Prabesh is married to Deepa.
Abhilash
This Aditi chap is a must have for all cocktail parties as his mix will have
a lasting impression. A great cook. More famous for his beef fry. Abhilash is
another fitness freak who has a costly club membership, but has no time to
make it at least once a week.
Anand
This gentleman from Ambalapuzha enjoys living in
his dreams. Life is a lackluster mixture of luck (or lack of it), zodiac signs, astrology, and missed opportunities for
many others, but not for this dynamic entertainer. His long years of
upbringing in the City of Joy have many a side effect nowadays. Anand is
currently working as the Director of Delivery with Bridgeline,
India. Anand is married to Dhivya.
Vineetha, Asha
My best teachers
K. P. Sreedevi Amma (my amma, who taught me virtually everything)
Dr. Anandavally KV (who taught me Algebra in Mar Ivanios)
Ms. Bindu VR (who taught me Computer Graphics in MG University)
Mr. Gopala Pillai (who taught me Malayalam at
NSSHS)
Rev. Dr. Kuriakose OIC (who taught me Malayalam in
Mar Ivanios)
See the list of Divya's friends as well.
